Bring some good luck with you to this year’s St. Patrick’s Day party! You can make these St. Patrick’s Day Pretzel Snacks in just a few minutes and the salty sweet flavor will keep people coming back for more.
While I love to do little things to celebrate holidays all year, I don’t want to dedicate an entire day or lots of money to the effort. 🙂 That’s where simple treats like these St. Patrck’s Day Pretzel Snacks come in handy. The fun of a special day is still there, but I don’t have to go over the top with it.
However, if you are one of those moms that loves to color the toilet water green and leave little leprechaun prints all over your house, go for it! You’ll get no judgement from me, “Pinterest Moms.” I love creativity of any kind, especially when it’s done for your kids!
Spread out 24 pretzels on the lined baking sheet, placing one candy melt on each pretzel. Set aside.
This recipe uses green fondant to make the little shamrocks on each pretzel. The advantage of fondant is you can control the size of the shamrock and get it to look exactly how you would like. It’s also a little easier to eat than hard candy, in my opinion.
I’ve used the Cake Boss fondant for a few things and it’s very true to color and easy to roll out. If you don’t want to buy fondant, you can always make your own! This is a great recipe for marshmallow fondant from Cake Whiz.
To shape a St. Patrick’s clover out of fondant, do the following: roll out 6 spheres, about 1/4 of an inch thick. Take two spheres and press them together, giving them a point on one end. This will create a heart shape. Repeat for the other 2 pairs of spheres.
Press the three fondant hearts together, with one in the center and the other two on the side, slightly angled. Repeat 24 times to have enough for your two dozen pretzels.
Roll out 24 additional ¼ inch fondant spheres, then roll them into little stubs. Set aside all of the fondant shapes while the pretzels bake.
Place pan of pretzels and white candy melts into oven and bake for 2 minutes. While the white candy melts are still warm, gently add a fondant clover on top, followed by a green fondant stub (it will act as your clover’s stem). Repeat for each pretzel.
If you don’t want to bother with rolling out fondant, you can use shamrock sprinkles like these I found on Amazon, but they are going to be smaller than the fondant shamrocks. I like the effect you get from the larger shamrocks, but using sprinkles is quick and easy, too!
Treats like these St. Patrick’s Day Pretzel Snacks (and other like my Patriotic Pretzel Bites) are best made and served on the same day. The pretzels tend to get soft and stale if they are left out for very long. However, the salty sweet combination is so good, I don’t imagine you’ll have any leftovers!
