A finalist in the 1978 Pillsbury Bake-Off® Contest,
these Maple Cream Coffee Treats have a sweet, sticky
outside and a creamy, decadent filling. They would be perfect for a holiday breakfast!
We have a sweet lady in our church with a very unique claim to fame: she’s been a finalist in the Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest two years in a row. She won cash prizes, kitchen appliances and all sorts of bragging rights for the rest of her life. 🙂 Reta entered the contest six different years during the 70’s and won prizes in 1977 and 1978. When I asked her which recipe entry was her favorite, she didn’t even hesitate. Her answer was Maple Cream Coffee Treats and now I know why!
Over the years I’ve had the privilege of trying a few of Reta’s recipes. She’s invited our family over for dinner a few times, and nearly every church potluck she brings a delicious recipe from her contest entries. We even have a couple in our church cookbooks! Reta claims that her secret weapon was cream cheese. I agree. Every good recipe starts with cream cheese. 🙂
We were chatting about her Bake-Off® Contest experiences and she told me that for these Maple Cream Coffee Treats, she sent away to Vermont for real maple syrup. She was the ultimate competitor!
Think you’ve got what it takes to win? This year’s Pillsbury Bake-Off® Contest is open now through November 10, 2017. Click here to enter your original recipe and win $50,000, a kitchen make-over from GE Appliances, an appearance on an episode of The Kitchen and a write up in Food Network Magazine. I really enjoyed reading about the history of the contest and a few little-known facts, facts-like the fact that one of the finalists of the 1966 contest put the Bundt pan on the map!

Don’t forget to enter the contest while you’re there! It’s a fantastic way to let those family recipes live on for generations to come! (And get some cold hard cash while you’re at it!) Good luck!
For something savory, try using Pillsbury crescent roll dough in this Easy Taco Braid recipe. It’s a family favorite!
