With just a few household items, you can make heart cupcakes that are perfect for Valentine’s Day, bridal showers, or any heart themed party!
Starting with a box mix makes Valentine’s Day heart cupcakes easy enough that your kids can make them! Try serving them alongside this delicious Pink Hot Chocolate for a sweet Valentine’s Day treat.
This is more a “how to” kind of a post rather than a cupcake recipe. It’s all about getting the shape of the cupcakes right and then you can add details like frosting and sprinkles.
If you have a basic piping set like this one, you can do different styles of frosting on the cupcakes. Use the star tip to create mini rosettes, or use a plain tip for outlining. You can get creative with this!
Supplies needed to make heart cupcakes:
- cupcake baking tin
- cupcake liners
- marbles
- aluminum foil
- piping bag and tips for frosting
Start by placing cupcake liners in a cupcake tin. Place a marble at the top of each cupcake liner to create the top of the heart shape. To create the sides of the heart (rather than having them be round) fold small pieces of aluminum foil and place one on each side near the base of the heart.
Add the batter to the cups. Be sure not to overfill the cups-you don’t want the cake to rise above the edges or the heart shape will be lost.
Bake as directed and then carefully remove the cupcakes from the pan. Be sure to allow them to cool completely before frosting!
Pipe the frosting any way you’d prefer-rosettes, criss-cross pattern or simple outlines. Add sprinkles and Valentine’s candies to make these the perfect Valentine’s Day cupcakes!

Heart Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1 Boxed Cake Mix any flavor
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup oil
- 1 cup water
- Frosting
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Line the cupcake tin with cupcake liners
- Place a marble in the center of the "top" of the cupcake
- Fold a small piece of foil to fit on both sides of the cupcake liner
- Use a 1/4 measuring cup to add the batter to the cupcake tin.
- Bake for 15-18 mins
- Remove and let cool in the pan for 20-25 mins
- Once removed you should have a heart-shaped cupcake!
- Frost as you would like (see notes for suggestions)
