Get those grimy floors clean with this heavy duty floor cleaner! It is perfect for getting rid of the “boy bathroom” smell!
One great thing about doing this 365 days blog thing is that if forces me to do things I wouldn’t normally do. Like clean my floors. OK, I do clean my floors, but not nearly as often as I should. I just HATE doing it so so so so so so so so so much! At least now I have a heavy duty floor cleaner that makes it less of a chore.
The kitchen really isn’t too bad. I love my wood laminate floors because most of the time, a damp paper towel will do the trick. But the bathrooms? Now that’s a different story.
I live in a house populated by males. Anyone with boys knows what that “boy bathroom smell” is like. I swear, it’s in the walls. I can wipe down every surface in there and wash the floor on my hands and knees and it’s still there-wafting through the house like an Oscar the Grouch version of a Glade plug-in. But this floor cleaner just might be my salvation.
This recipe from Food.com is for heavy-duty cleaning like in a commercial kitchen. It is designed to be a grease cutter. And it worked great on my kitchen floor. But what drew me to the pin was the fact that someone wrote in the description “smells amazing.”
The problem with using ammonia based cleaners like Pine-Sol in the bathroom is that it just seems to make the pee smell even worse. And why use expensive and harsh chemicals when you don’t have to? Seriously, my bathroom smells great and the floors look clean. At least for the next 12 seconds.
4/23/2013 NOTE: It did not work well on my wood laminate floor. After the floor was completely dry, it left a soap residue and felt all gunky. So stick with tile floors only. My bathrooms still look and smell great today!
Heavy Duty Floor Cleaner
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap (blue Dawn is a miracle in a bottle-I wouldn’t use anything else!)
- 1/4 cup washing soda (this can be found in the laundry aisle of the grocery store)
- 2 gallons tap water, very warm water
- Place all the ingredients into a bucket and mix well until sudsy.
- Mop the area with the solution. Rinsing is not required, but wiping down with a towel afterwards gives a nice clean finish
Not recommended for waxed floors–it may make the wax gunky.
If you’re looking for a great cleaning solution for a wood laminate floor, THIS is the one. I’ve tested multiple floor cleaner mixtures and I love how fresh and clean my floor gets with just a little spray of this and a good dust mop.
