Crab and Avocado Grilled Cheese
A few days ago I was gleefully going on a pinning spree when I came across this beauty on FoodieCrush. Crab and avocado grilled cheese? Um, yes, please! Now, I have tried the combination of crab and avocado before thanks to Pinterest, but I was sorely disappointed. I was NOT a fan of warm and mushy avocado. However, in grilled cheese form, this is definitely OK. It’s better than OK. It’s a calorie-laden treat. 🙂 My husband and I enjoyed one for lunch today. He thought it needed a spicy sauce of some kind to really put it over the top, but I was perfectly happy with mine. Besides, avocado is a good fat, right? 😉 I did the “poor man” version of this sandwich and used canned crab meat, so I’m sure it would be even better with fresh crab!
Crab and Avocado Grilled Cheese
Ingredients
- Sourdough bread
- Butter
- 8 oz . crab meat (I used canned, but fresh would be better)
- 1/2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- Pepper to taste
- 1 ripe avocado , sliced
- Monterey Jack cheese , sliced
Instructions
- Butter two slices of bread.
- Mix crab meat, Old Bay seasoning and pepper together.
- Place cheese slices on bread, cover with half of the crab mixture and half of the sliced avocado.
- Put sandwich on a hot grill (I use an electric skillet set to 350°) and cook until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Enjoy hot!

I’ve kind of gone away from sandwiches lately, but that sure has to change now. Avocado and crab is a taste combination that I’ve never tried before. There is a “fancy” grilled cheese restaurant here in town and they don’t even have this combination. Can’t wait to try it.
