Sweet, smoky and spicy, Honey Jalapeño Bacon is the perfect snack for watching football. It’s basically candy with protein. 😉
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tyson Foods, Inc. All opinions are entirely my own.
Football season is kicking into high gear. The elite teams of the league are heading toward a showdown in the big game. Now is the time for everyone to step their game up and leave it all on the field. It’s also time for you to take your tailgating game to the next level and I have just the snack hack that will help you do that-Honey Jalapeño Bacon.
I am a homebody. I much prefer watching the Big Game from the comfort of my couch as opposed to spending several hours in the winter elements. Just because your big pre-game bash isn’t happening in a stadium parking lot doesn’t mean it will be any less epic.
A good Homegating party will start with great decorations. Normally, I would use the red and gold colors of my favorite team, but unfortunately there is absolutely no reason to include them this year. What I did instead was pick up some green outdoor carpet from my local hardware store and laid out the field striping with white duct tape.
Some repurposed chip cans, painted yellow like goal posts, serve as the centerpiece of my tabletop tailgate. I drew a football field on a foam board that made a great serving platter. I picked up some football themed plates for my guests to use and even let them decorate them with a sticker of their favorite team’s logo.
I’m adventurous when it comes to food so I always like to include something new for everyone to try. This year I decided to go with Honey Jalapeño Bacon. It’s a little involved but still pretty easy and definitely worth it. It’s smoky, sweet and spicy-pretty much the perfect snack for watching football.
Honey Jalapeño Bacon
Ingredients
- 1 lb. of Wright® Brand Bacon Hickory Smoked
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 2-3 tsp. honey for drizzling
- 1 jalapeño diced finely
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°
- Dredge both side of the Wright brand bacon in the brown sugar, pressing down lightly to get the sugar to stick.
- Place a greased cooling rack on a foil-lined baking sheet and lay the strips of bacon on top being sure to leave space between each slice.
- Bake for 15 mins. then remove from oven, turn over and drizzle with honey. Sprinkle with jalapeños and return to oven.
- Bake for another 5-10 mins. Watch closely so it doesn't burn!
- Allow to cool before removing from racks.
Tyson Foods has a lineup of products that are not only convenient but also raise anyone’s homegating game to an all-pro level. I headed over to my local Kroger store to pick up all the food for my homegating party. I stopped in the refrigerator section and grabbed some Wright Brand Bacon for my snack hack and some Ball Park® hotdogs, always a great choice. I swung by the freezer section and picked up some of the great Tyson® Any’tizers® for my tabletop tailgate.
I love that Tyson has such a great variety of choices like Honey BBQ Chicken (my personal favorite) or Buffalo Style chicken strips for my friends who like a little kick. Tyson makes hosting a homegating party a snap. I know all of my guests will be satisfied even though their tastes are as varied as their choices in teams. Why spend all that time in the kitchen when what you really want to do is spend time with your friends watching football?

This Honey Jalapeño Bacon looks absolutely delicious! I love the combination of sweet and spicy flavors, and it sounds way better than what you get at Denny’s. Can’t wait to try this recipe at home!

I tried this at Denny,so Great where can I buy it
Nicole Burkholder says
As far as I know, Denny’s is the only place you can get it. The next best thing is to make it at home like I did. 🙂 I’ll ask my husband about Denny’s supplier and their recipe, though.

Here’s an insider tip for you: sadly, Denny’s will be discontinuing this bacon! 🙁 So get it now while you can, or you’ll just have to start making your own!
Sheryl Santelmann says
My husband is now addicted to Denny’s Honey Jalapeno Bacon, and of course they are discontinuing it. Your recipe seems like it would be maybe sweeter than theirs with the amount of brown sugar you use though. Is the taste similar to theirs, do you know? (I don’t do “spicy”, but he sure does!) We already pretty much only buy the Wright brand bacon, and I bake it in the oven, 1 1/2 lbs at a time.
Nicole Burkholder says
Yes, I was so sad to hear that it was getting discontinued! My recipe is similar to candied bacon but with some spice. You could certainly make it with less brown sugar if you’re concerned about it being too sweet. (And you can go easier on the jalapeños with your own slices) 😉

I feel exactly the same way about tailgating… let me stay home in the warmth with my tv and my snacks! 😉 This jalapeño candied bacon sounds AMAZING! I can just imagine how yummy that spicy kick is!
