This slushy punch (also known as Wedding Punch) is perfect for summer events like weddings, graduations, and cookouts! It’s perfect for parties because it can be made in advance.
You know how a certain smell or taste can bring memories flooding back to your mind? This Almond Punch is exactly that for me. I grew up as a pastor’s kid and so my mom was always hosting wedding showers, baby showers, ladies’ group activities and church potlucks.
This slushy punch (also known as Wedding Punch) was a staple at those events. I am transported back to childhood every time I take a sip. It’s cool, refreshing and full of flavor. The fact that you prepare it early is a huge bonus when you are party planning!
My mom made this for Garret and Anna’s wedding reception party a couple weeks ago. She doubles the recipe when she makes it and it fills this GIGANTIC Tupperware container (it has to be at least 3 gallons.) We served over 100 people easily.
Even if you make this as instructed, you’re still going to need a very large container in which to freeze the punch. You’ve been warned. 😉 Another option is to use good quality freezer bags. They help with saving space as well!
The thawing process can take a while, so be prepared. You can see in the picture up on the top that the center of our punch was still pretty frozen. There may or may not have been a sharp knife hacking away at the frozen punch to help hurry it along. 😉
It all depends on the container you use and how hot it is that day. You can always toss it back into the freezer if it’s starting to melt too much. The perfect thing about this punch is that it keeps itself cold as it thaws so you don’t need to add ice or worry about watering it down too much.
With summer coming up soon, you’ll have lots of opportunities to use this Almond Wedding Punch for picnics, parties, campouts and wedding showers!

About how long does it take to thaw in a nice cool house?
Nicole Burkholder says
It depends on how solidly it gets frozen. I really can’t say for sure-if you stir it frequently as it starts to break up, it doesn’t take as long to thaw. I would keep an eye on it in as it freezes so you know what you’re dealing with. You can pull it out and stash it in the fridge if it’s getting too solid or you don’t think there’s enough time to thaw.
How’s that for a less than helpful answer? 😀 Honestly, it’s been so long since I’ve made it and we typically have it outdoors so I don’t feel I can give you a certain answer. 🙂 Good luck!

Glad I finally found this recipe. I used to love this stuff. Guaranteed ever summer baby shower, engagement party, or birthday there was always a bowl. Pairs well with champagne if you drink.
Nicole Burkholder says
It doesn’t really have a good name so it’s hard to google it 🙂 But it was such a staple at every party when I was growing up! Glad you found it.

The only downside was only making 2 batches. Can you make it without using real sugar, substitute Stevia or another alternative? Thank goodness I brought ginger ale to make it last a little longer
Nicole Burkholder says
Any sugar substitute would be fine (although I think Stevia or Splenda would work best) and using ginger ale is a great way to make it stretch!
Jessie says
Do you recommend serving with sprite or ginger ale? If so, which one?
Nicole Burkholder says
You could, but be sure to wait until after thawing to a “slush” consistency to add it to the mix. Otherwise there’s no point in adding a carbonated beverage to the punch. I think I would go with Sprite/7up over ginger ale. The punch already has its own flavor, and ginger ale is quite strong. I don’t think the flavors would blend very well. A lemon/lime soda would be a better option for that.

Grew up with this punch. I love the slushy part! I just made 4 recipes of it for my daughter’s wedding on Saturday. I am using gallon freezer bags to store in the freezer until the big day. Thanks for sharing. 👰♀️

It’s so nostalgic for me! 🙂 And yes, the slushiness is the BEST! It’s a perfect summer wedding/party punch!

I was going to make this for a graduation party, but was curious how much this recipe makes?
Thanks 🙂

Nevermind-I guess I need to read before I ask a question LOL
I’m excited to try this!!

Ha! Glad you found it 🙂 It’s soooo good-you’re going to love it!

I grew up with this punch as well! I worked for a woman at our church who was a wedding coordinator and we made this punch for every wedding, anniversary party and baby shower in town. We mixed ours 50/50 with cold ginger ale when serving in a punch bowl. I LOVE this punch, thanks for the memories.
Nicole Burkholder says
Isn’t it delicious! It always brings back memories for me, too 🙂

I am wanting to use this for my wedding next month. I am diabetic and need to limit my sugar. Can I use a low calorie sweetener and get the same result?
Getting married in Texas, at the end of June… a slushy drink will be perfect!
Nicole Burkholder says
I think that would be just fine. I’m pretty sure Splenda is a 1:1 ratio when replacing sugar, so I’d try that. Congratulations!

Cool touch with the almond. Adds a nice sweetness.

Nicole, I had never heard of this punch before. I can’t wait to try it. I’m putting it on the menu for a book group I’m hosting soon!

I’ve never had almond flavoured punch before! Sounds lovely 🙂
Nicole Burkholder says
It’s just a mild flavor underneath the fruity punch- but it’s the thing that keeps you coming back for more!
